Designated areas for fireworks this weekend

The Pocatello Fire Dept. wants to remind you this holiday weekend to prevent fires and save homes and lives.

Aerial fireworks are illegal. They are a risk for wildfires. The fireworks sold at the corner stands in the area are called “safe and sane” and are permitted where fireworks are allowed, according to the fire dept.

“We have areas that we want to discourage anyone using fireworks or open burning fireworks. And that would be the designated wild fire interface areas. They’re usually at the outskirts of the city. They entail most of south Pocatello and the Johnny Creek area.” said Tom Sanford, Asst. Chief, Pocatello Fire Dept.

The yellow on that map is the forbidden zone for fireworks. Your local firework stands will have a copy of this map for your reference.
