Jefferson County kicks off Fourth of July celebrations
The Fourth of July isn’t until Monday but people have already started celebrating. Jefferson County is having an all-day event at Jefferson Lake Saturday.
The Wet and Wild Fun Run kicked of Jefferson County’s Fourth of July celebrations.
All proceeds from the 5K run go toward Jefferson and Farnsworth elementary schools.
“We’ve got a great event has benders we have activities we’ve got the fireworks, and it’s an enjoyable day for people in the community from all over the place actually,” said Rebecca Squires, director of Jefferson County Parks and Recreation.
There was also Zumba and bubble soccer for folks to participate in; and the festivities aren’t stopping anytime soon, after 6 p.m. the celebration will still be going on strong. (Flier of events)
“We have some live bands going on out here, and in a little while will have the Celtic dancers and bagpipers that will be handling our flag ceremony. After that will have the fireworks show here at the lake,” Squires said.
Jefferson County Parks and Recreation hired a couple of interns, and one of those interns from BYU-Idaho organized most of the event.
“You know I’ve never done anything this big before., so I looked at past years’. They had different things, but I wanted to put my own stamp on it; make things different with the bubble soccer, with the 3-D firework glasses, spike ball, cash prizes. You know, trying to put my own twist to make this event special and put Rigby on the map,” said Intern Michael Patton.
Saturday’s event will continue until after 9 p.m.
The Fourth of July celebration at Jefferson Lake has been going on for about 10 years.
