Oldest Pocatello firefighter turns 98

The oldest fireman in Pocatello is turning 98 on the 4th of July, but he’s celebrating his birthday Saturday night.

John Farnsworth has been retired from the Pocatello Fire Department for 40 years. He says he was working during the days when there were no oxygen masks during fires. Farnsworth says he never felt scared during big structure fires as he always had faith in his good training and his captain.

“I was stationed at the airport and we had a test run. And we had a truck, Walders and there were no baffle plates in there to keep the water from spilling,” said Farnsworth.

The entire community is invited to come to the celebration tonight and honor his legacy as the oldest living fire fighter.

The event will be held at the Bannock County Historical Museum at 6p.m. Saturday night.
