2016 Pocatello water quality report is in

The 2016 Pocatello water quality report is in from the Water Department, and the results are in the clear.

Visiting the department Tuesday, the staff was able to show how tests are conducted and where.
There are 17 different wells in production currently, that are capable to producing more than 45 million gallons of water per day. Which is from the Lower Portneuf Valley Aquifer.

“We just got a sample bottle we take monthly samples of bacteria samples and we just take the residual and make sure there’s chlorine in the water. And then we take the sample out of this bottle and we take it down to the lab. We do that bi-weekly – every two weeks,” said Casey Duncan, Pump Purification Technician of the Water Dept.

Duncan says if anyone at home would like their water tested, they can call one of their local water testing labs for the bottles. One of the labs listed is IAS EnviroChem, located on Pole Line Road. (208)-237-3300.

The Water Dept. also encourages people in the community to attend City Council meetings on decisions affecting drinking water. Meetings occur on the 1st and 3rd Thursday each month beginning at 6p.m. inside City Hall.
