Update: Inkom Fire Department keeping an eye on area overnight

Update 10:10 pm: A public affairs officer with the U.S. Forest Service confirms only 97 acres burned, less than previously thought. Fire crews also stopped working on the site around 9 p.m. The Inkom Fire Department will be keeping an eye on the area overnight before crews return to work on it in the morning.

Update 5:50 pm: According to the on site incident commander, the fire is now estimated at 130-140 acres in size. The fire has been entirely surrounded with fire retardant and is roughly 50 percent contained. Crews hope to have it contained by tomorrow morning. At this time the threats to homes is greatly diminished.

Update 5:20 pm: According to officials wit the Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center the fire is now estimated at about 200 acres and is roughly 20 percent contained.

Update 3:25 pm: According to Sheriff Lorin Nielsen, the fire burning near Inkom was started by bottle rocket fireworks set off by minors in the area.

The fire has burned about 120 acres of ground. The fire is near 6 homes on Opal Street. Firefighters are focusing on that area to prevent the fire from spreading to the homes. Families can evacuate their homes but are not being required to at this time.

Crews from the Bannock County Sheriff’s office, Inkom Fire Department and Pocatello Valley Fire are all working to stop the spread of the fire.

Original Story: A brush fire that is spreading in Inkom has forced one family to evacuate their home as a precaution.

Firefighters are working to contain the fire.
