Jackson regional jewish community shows support for police

In light of the recent shootings in Dallas, members of the Jewish community in Jackson expressed their support for the Jackson Police Department with kids personally delivering pictures and treats to the officers.

“We had a group of people, together with kids. We had a wonderful time visiting with them (the Jackson police),” said Chabad Rabbi Zalman Mendelsohn.

Kids from a local camp brought over pictures, pastries and even Jewish challah bread. Jackson police officers said the treats didn’t last long as they were “really good.” Rabbi Mendelsohn said they wanted to do this so the police would know they had the support of the Jewish community.

“With so much confusion going around the country, so many are disillusioned with the responsibility of the police officers. It is important for us to send a clear message here in Jackson, and throughout our region, and throughout the country, to let them know that we support our police officers,” said Rabbi Mendelsohn. “They’re a critical component, a vital part of our community, we need to back them during this difficult time.”

The Jewish community weren’t the only ones showing their support for the Jackson Police Department. A local Presbyterian Church also gave letters and gifts of support later in the day.
