Seal coating work on I-15 between Sage Junction and Dubois begins July 14

Seal coating on Interstate 15 between Sage Junction and Dubois, funded by new revenue, will begin Thursday, July 14. This project will preserve the highway surface and maintain mobility on I-15. The seal coat is scheduled for completion in mid-August.

The adjoining section of I-15, from Idaho Falls to the Sage Junction Port of Entry, was completed at the end of June. That work was also funded by new revenue.

I-15 is an important trade route for Idaho and the nation, moving products between Mexico and Canada. The primary partners/stakeholders in this work are the trucking industry, Bonneville, Clark and Jefferson counties, and the Bonneville Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with crews first sealing shoulders. Beginning Monday, the speed limit in work areas will be reduced to 45 mph.

Motorists should observe posted speed limits and keep a safe distance from other vehicles to reduce potential windshield damage.

Commercial drivers transporting permitted loads wider than 16 feet need to contact Resident Engineer Matt Davison (208-745-5686) or Staff Engineer David Alvarez (208-745-5660) 24 hours in advance for special authorization to pass through the construction zones.

The transportation department awarded TMC Contractors Inc., of Idaho Falls, the $2.2 million contract.

The Idaho Transportation Board voted in May 2015 to move a group of projects forward using funds recently allocated by the Idaho Legislature in the state’s first transportation-revenue increase in nearly two decades. Doing so enabled the advancement of dozens of other critically needed road and bridge projects statewide in the future. This seal-coating work is part of that initial group of projects.
