Chubbuck solar company creating new products for portable energy

Chubbuck-based Inergy Solar has a number of new solar energy products on the way, one of them including a generator that can power a house.

The generator is being developed through a partnership with the University of Idaho with an IGEM grant worth $178,178. It will be able to hold 5 kilowatts of power, which is five times more capacity than the company’s recently released Kodiak generator.

The Kodiak generator is good for the bare necessities, but the new generator will have little restrictions to powering a home. On average, a typical home uses around 4.5 kilowatts a day.

The best part, it will have the same portability as the Kodiak generator.

“We expect it to be somewhere between 60 to 80 pounds, so you could actually take it with you to your cabin or wherever you need power,” said Sean Luangrath, Inergy Solar’s CEO.

Another product is on the horizon for the company. The Raptor is a portable charging device with solar panels and a battery pack built in. It’s meant to give access to power where there is none.

For example, if you go anywhere in the backcountry, all you need is sunlight to charge the device and have access to power.

Luangrath said both products signal Inergy Solar’s aim to give people portable and affordable access to a power grid.

“The most important thing is you now become independent,” he said. “You don’t need to rely on the grid being up or relying on gasoline.”

The Raptor is set to go on sale for $50 to $60. It will be launched through an IndieGoGo campaign early August like the Kodiak generator.

Inergy Solar is also working on developing smart technology generators with the Idaho National Laboratory.
