ISU hosts international choral festival

Idaho State University is hosting 15 international choirs from July 19-24. The choirs performing will come from Costa Rica, Poland, Africa, Iran, U.S., among many others. Along with the barbershop quartet group, Soundscape is also performing.

Concerts are being held at the Stephens Performing Arts Center, Trinity Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, ISU’s Goranson Hall and Quad and Pebble Creek Ski Area. A schedule for the festival can be found at idahointerchoralfest.org.

Seventy-five students from Idaho will be performing under the direction of Karen Kennedy, University of Miami, in the High School Honor Choir. Other choirs include a girls’ choir from New Jersey, Children Song of New Jersey, a well-known choir from Trinidad and Tobago, two choirs from the Philippines and the choir Martve from the Republic of Georgia.

Idaho State University’s Chamber Choir traveled to England and Scotland in May to perform in their own international concert series. They performed in historic cathedrals whose history dates back to the 1,100 years ago.

Concerts will be held at the Stephens Performing Arts Center, Trinity Episcopal Church, First Congregational United Church of Christ, First Presbyterian Church, ISU’s Goranson Hall and Quad and Pebble Creek Ski Area.

“I think tonight will be an amazing concert, we listen to the choir as they arrive yesterday…chilling! I mean thrill chilling,” said Julie Hayden, Director, International Choral Festival.

“Some of us are from Missouri. Most of us are from the Columbia area. We met at some point at the university there and now we’re kind of all over the country,” said Christine Nichols, Singer from Missouri.
