Local twins’ clothing line featured in Western Horse & Gun magazine

Local twins are featured in this month’s issue of Western Horse & Gun. Caryl and Cheryl Wilson are profiled for their western-inspired clothing line.

They grew up near an Indian reservation — where they found their love for handcrafted clothing and beadwork.

“We were raised in the Midwest — in Nebraska — so we were raised on a farm, our horses were our best friends, next to each other. And so, we just had the love of riding free and open air and of course we love the smell of leather. And so we just kind of developed what we wanted to wear for ourselves,” said Wild Instincts co-founder Cheryl Wilson.

After the loss of cheryl’s daughter, the twins purchased harley fatboy motorcycles and then realized leather clothing options for women were limited. The creation of Wild instincts happened soon after.

“Its kind of evolved since then into more of a western clientele, so that’s kind of the design that we went with. We’re more new western leather products. We do all the hand stitching and lacing ourselves. We don’t have anybody else do it for use. We make it all,” said Wild Instincts co-founder Caryl Wilson.

Wild instincts was created in 2010 and exposure has never been better, especially with its appearing on the cover of Western Horse & Gun.

“Its kind of scary. I don’t know we just kind of let the horse have its head and let it run, you know? We’ll see where it goes. Its exciting! The best part is we get to work with each other. Every year we get a little bit better, and a little bit better and add new products,” said Caryl.

Caryl and Cheryl handcraft belts, fringe vests, dresses, miniskirts, chaps, and much much more. And why is turquoise such a staple color them?

“It’s our favorite color,” laughed Caryl and Cheryl.

Caryl and Cheryl will be featured artists at the Western Design Conference at Jackson Hole this September.
