UPDATE: Clifton Fire fully contained, crews working to put out hotspots

Update 8/24/2016 6:10 p.m.: The U.S. Forest Service confirmed the Clifton Fire is fully contained as of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Fire crews are now working to control it. Six federal fire engines and three fire engines from Franklin County Fire are currently monitoring hotspots.

Update 8/24/2016 11:10 am: According to Franklin County Fire, the Clifton Fire has burned around 2,500 acres. One structure was destroyed in the fire but no one was injured. Firefighters have the fire about 75 percent contained and working to put out hot spots now.

Update 9:44 p.m.: All evacuation orders have been lifted at this time and all families have been able to return to their homes.

There is still no official word on how big the fire is. Daniel Garner, a farmer in the area, said he lost 750 acres worth of grain crop and that others probably lost more than him.

There also is no word on how much the fire is under control. However, Randon Naegle with Franklin County Fire District said the north end of the fire is under control more than the south end.

Update 7:09 p.m.: Crews from multiple agencies are working to extinguish a wildfire that started around noon in Franklin County.

Teams from Franklin County, the U.S. Forest Service and Cache County, Utah are working together to establish a fire break. Crews don’t have an exact measurement of the fire but sources say it has burned several thousand acres so far.

The U.S Forest service has also initiated a back burn which should help with efforts to stop the fire by burning up some of its fuel.

We are continuing to gather information on the fire and homes that may be threatened by it. We will update this story as we receive new information.

Original Story: Homes in Clifton are being evacuated as a precaution while a wildfire burns near the area.

The first calls were reported around 12:30 pm Tuesday. The Preston Police Department has confirmed there is a fire burning in the area. The County has sent out emergency calls and texts for people living in the area to evacuate to the Clifton Church House.

The evacuation order is for home starting at 1495 West Side Highway to 400 North Main in Clifton.

Franklin County emergency crews are responding to the fire. No estimated acres burned yet. At this time the cause of the fire is unknown.
