A piece of history makes its come back
A piece of history is coming back to life at Pocatello High School. The neon Pocatello Indian Head was reinstalled Tuesday morning on the building.
The sign received a facelift back in June. It is now returning to its rightful spot on the side of pocatello high school facing Authur Avenue.
The sign originates from the old Wasatch gas station on Yellowstone Avenue, but was given to the Pocatello High School Class of 1951.
Principal Lisa Delonas says the sign’s neon broke in 1990 and was left in the dark with no money to fix it. More than 20 years later and after ten thousand dollars in grants, it’s back and ready to be lit again.
“We will have a perpetual maintenance fund set up so it will never go dark again. So we have a fund set up – if a piece of neon gets broken, we’ll have the money to immediately get it fixed. It should always be on from now on,” said Delonas.
The neon sign will be lit this Friday at 9p.m. during Pocatello High School’s homecoming game and First Friday’s Art Walk.
