Republicans brush up on campaigning methods

A campaign school was hosted Saturday by the Bingham County Republican Central Committee and the Idaho Republican Party.

“The basics: a refresher for some folks, but for some folks, this is new material. This is basically teaching individuals how to become active in the Republican Party, and also providing candidates information on how they can be successful with their campaigns,” said Bingham County Republican chairman Dan Cravens.

The free seminar was at the Homestead Restaurant in Blackfoot. Elected officials, candidates, precinct officers, and volunteers all came to broaden their skills and perspectives on campaign activities. The seminar’s hope was to give people chances to learn more about political campaigns.

There was a range of speakers — from campaign managers to campaign law experts.

“Particularly what they asked us to do for this training is provide information on a lot of our data and technology capabilities that were offering this election cycle. The one truism in politics is that politics never stays the same. It’s always changing. And if we want to make sure to maintain the progress that we’ve built in this state — built up as a party, getting as many officials elected as we have — we have to continue to improve and innovate on how we’re talking and connecting with the electorate,” said Idaho Republican Party executive director David Johnston.

Labor day is the typical kickoff of the political campaign season. The county republicans wanted to get their training in now before they hit the trails.
