Wednesday looking to be colder and snowy
A winter storm arriving from the north will bring snow and sub-zero temperatures on Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning (Pink area on map) for parts of southern Idaho beginning at midnight tonight (Wednesday) to 5 am Thursday. A Winter Storm Warning means a significant amount of snow may cause hazardous travel conditions.
They say the area includes the mountains and cities around Malad, Oakley, Rockland, Preston and Montpelier. Snow is expected to accumulate 5 to 9 inches in the valleys and 10 to 17 inches in the mountains above 5500 feet in this area. The Burley – Rupert area is expected to see heavier snow and causing dangerous travel conditions along the I-84 corridor into Utah.
Other areas from Pocatello and north will see smaller amounts of snow.
The farther south you go, the more likely to see heavier snow and worse travel conditions. The Wasatch front is expected to get hit with heavy snow.
Those in the Upper Valley are under a Wind Chill Warning (light blue area on map) from Wednesday night to Thursday morning. Sub-zero temperatures along with winds will create winds chill temperatures between -20 and -30.
People with exposed skin could see frost bite or hypothermia if in these conditions for too long.
A Winter Storm Advisory (Dark blue area on map) is issued for other parts of the area.
