Schools cancel Thursday classes because of winter weather
Idaho Falls School District 91 and Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 have preemptively canceled classes for Thursday, January 5th because of winter weather conditions.
District 91 cited forecasted temperatures and wind chill as factors in the decision. School district officials also wanted to give parents plenty of time to plan for child care Thursday. Superintendent George Boland issued the following statement:
“Based on the consistent forecast of windchill in the -27 to -31 degree range between 7am and 9am tomorrow morning all schools will be closed. This early announcement is intended to provide parents with additional time to make arrangements for child care if needed. Principals and building secretaries should report to their buildings to ensure any students who do arrive will have entry to the buildings.”
District 25 in Pocatello and Chubbuck also announced plans to cancel classes for Thursday. The school says with snowfall predicted to be an additional 4 to 8 inches there will not be sufficient time to clear bus stops and routes in time for safe delivery to and from school. The District says this means all other school events including after school programs and sporting events will be canceled.
