Area wakes up to icy driving conditions
Waking up Monday proved to be quite dangerous for most, as many county roads were literally encased in solid sheets of ice. Numerous reports of slide-offs and cars stuck in ditches are continuing to come in due to the dangerous travel.
It was reported by travelers, I-15 between Idaho Falls and Pocatello and US 20 between Idaho Falls and Rexburg are mainly wet. They said traffic is moving a bit slower than normal because of the uncertain conditions.
The INL buses had to impose a delay this morning due to extremely icy conditions between Idaho Falls and the site.
The problems weren’t just in Idaho but in the Jackson Hole area as well. Multiple accidents were reported and at one point earlier this morning, routes into Jackson were closed because of the ice and snow. All the highways were reopened right after 8:30 a.m.
Several school districts decided to cancel classes for the third day straight. In fact, Lincoln County Wyoming had their first snow day in over 20 years. The schools in Jackson were also closed for the first time in a long time, they said.
While the temps have warmed up to above freezing, the problems aren’t over with yet.
An atmospheric river of moisture will continue to pump in rain, snow and ice through Wednesday night before more Arctic air returns for the end of the week.
With warmer temps and quite a bit of rain expected for some valleys, flooding is going to be a big concern especially if you live in a low-lying area prone to flooding or near a creek or stream.
