Five arrested for passing bad check

Idaho Falls Police arrested five persons Saturday after they attempted to cash a fraudulent check at Smith’s grocery store at 400 S. Woodruff. All five were from Memphis, Tenn. According to police reports, officers were called to the store at 4:45 p.m. to investigate two women attempting to pass a fraudulent check for $950. Employees said the women left in a white Durango after the service desk refused to process the check. Officers stopped the vehicle in the 100 block of East Anderson. The two women and three other persons were arrested. Vonterrius L. Jones, 20, was arrested for an out-of-state warrant. 
Marline J. Higgenbottom, 38, was arrested for criminal conspiracy, providing false information to a police officer, possession of a forged check, and drawing a check from a closed account. 
Iesha Davis,25, was arrested for criminal conspiracy, providing false information to a police officer, possession of a forged check and drawing a check from a closed account. 
Eureka Mathis, 37, was arrested for criminal conspiracy, providing false information to a police officer and an out-of-state warrant. 
Desinee Higginbottom,20, was arrested for criminal conspiracy and providing false information to a police officer.

The Idaho Falls Police Department says it took down a possible traveling check fraud ring.
A sergeant with the Police Department tells Local News 8 and Eyewitness news that someone tried to check a bad check at a local business. Police say the manager knew the check was phony and he followed them until police could catch up with them at a laundromat near Yellowstone Highway and Anderson.
Police were able to pull over the car carrying the suspect over arbout7 p.m. Saturday.
Five people inside the car were arrested on a variety of charges. In addition to the check fraud charges, they face charges of providing false names and outstanding warrants.
Idaho Falls police tell us this is likely not the first time these individuals have written bad checks. They have not released the names of the suspects.
