Political expert talks pros and cons of Trump administration
The Pocatello Rotary Club asked David Adler to speak at its luncheon on Thursday about pros and cons of Trump taking office.
Adler is a former political science professor at Idaho State University and an expert on politics. He’s studied the U.S. Constitution in-depth and has written numerous papers about the political process.
He said Trump supporters have good reason to hope that Trump may have some great successes in office.
“One hope is that president trump will live up to his campaign promises to create more jobs, to raise wages to try to promote the American economy, and to strengthen our national defense,” Adler said.
Adler has some concerns about the Trump administration. He said two key issues to watch will be Obamacare and foreign relations. He also worries there may be ethical conflicts with foreign nations because of Trump’s own business interests.
And Adler said one of the biggest concerns is how Trump could affect freedom of the press.
“Donald Trump has gone to war with the press, tried to destroy the integrity of the press, arguing that’s incompetent and that those who work in the media are quote ‘scum,'” Adler said. “I’m concerned that he will not make himself accessible to the press, I worry about the future of the White House press corp.”
