Students investigate 20 hottest jobs for the possible future careers
Hundreds of local middle and high school students were at Compass Academy for the first District 91 Hot Jobs Career Fair.
There were 20 professions represented at the event from construction to RV technician to the financial and medical fields.
Computer related fields including cybersecurity are especially hot. Idaho State University has a cybersecurity program because of the great demand.
“The potential is almost unlimited,” I.S.U professor of Informatics Corey Schou said. “Worldwide there are thousands of jobs unfilled. Here in the state there are thousands,”
Rebecca Chidister, a college and career adviser for District 91 explained how they chose the professions to be featured.
“We chose these jobs based on our partnership with the Idaho Department of Labor,” Chidester explained. “They’re the jobs that have the highest growth rate and are the highest paying over the next 20 years.”
Students found the event valuable.
“I think it’s really amazing that we’re having all the different professionals from all the jobs come in and talk about their professions, because that’s really the best way to get to know a profession,” Compass Academy sophomore Priya Tumuluru said.
