Evening Forecast, Jan. 21

Are you sick of snow? Good, because we’re going to get more. A large and complex storm will be sliding through the western US bringing rain and snow to several states, including Idaho.

Tonight, partly to mostly cloudy skies with patchy fog and a brief snow shower or two. Lows will range from the single digits to the low 20’s. Count on breezy conditions out of the southwest.

Sunday, starting out mostly cloudy with widespread snowfall and a few areas of rain by the afternoon. Daytime highs will be in the 20’s and 30’s. Some locations near I-86 (Pocatello, American Falls, Aberdeen, Burley) will see some daytime rain with highs in the upper 30’s. Farther up the plain, locations like Fort Hall, Blackfoot, and Firth could see a rain/snow mix. Most other locations will see strait snow. New snow totals for Sunday will vary widely, but they’ll range from 0-4 inches below 5500 feet to 4-8 inches above 5500 feet, isolated mountain locations could see more (and this is just for Sunday). Finally, it will be windy especially near the American Falls Reservoir.

Monday, more off-and-on snow showers with slightly cooler highs in the 20’s and 30’s and blustery winds. A few spots along I-86 will see a rain/snow mix, but everyone else will see snow. New snow totals will range from 1-4 inches below 5500 feet and another 4-8 inches above 5500 feet, with some mountain spots getting more. These snow estimates are in addition to Sunday’s, so keep the shovels handy.

Tuesday, partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies with a few lingering snow showers, mainly in the SE Highlands. Highs will be in the 20’s with light to moderate breezes.
