Chamber of Commerce returns from Boise, discusses need for additional funding for technical schools

(KIFI/KIDK) Chamber of commerce members recently returned from Boise where they met with the governor along with other chambers in Idaho. The leaders talked about issues ranging from taxes to tourism in Idaho.

One issue the group brought up, was the need for additional funding for technical schools.

“Whether it is welders or computer science folks, or yeah know plant operators, that kind of stuff, technical people, we are always at the legislature trying to work on funding for that,” said president of the Pocatello-Chubbuck Chamber of Commerce, Matthew Hunter.

Hunter said many students are on waiting lists trying to get into technical schools due to the limited number of programs Idaho offers. Hunter said if they could get more funding, it would get students off waiting lists and into a classroom.

Currently, it is unclear if and when the state will decide to move forward with additional funding.
