Largest climbing gym in Idaho opens in Ammon

A new climbing gym in Ammon has bragging rights as the biggest climbing gym in the state. The Edge Climbing and Fitness just opened a few weeks ago, and already it’s got a loyal crowd of climbers.

“We really have something for everybody,” said Ammon Hartner, the co-owner of the new facility. “From two to 82. Whether you’ve never been to the gym or your not athletic, there’s something fun to do.”

Edge Climbing and Fitness boasts close to 18,000 square feet of climbing space with difficulty ratings ranging from beginner to ninja (ninja is one step beyond expert). The climbing paths constantly change too. “We rotate a wall every two weeks so we have a completely new climbing gym every two months,” said Hartner.

While most climbing gyms are geared towards older crowds, Edge Climbing and Fitness has a dedicated room for young kids to learn and play. The floor in the kids room is padded with several inches of cushy covered foam, meaning most falls won’t result in injuries when learning.

After this weekend, the climbing gym will also feature a workout area with weights and cardio machines, so people can do either form of exercise when visiting. “People can simply come here to exercise, instead of having to buy separate passes for climbing or weight lifting,” said Hartner.

The Edge Climbing and Fitness is located at 2488 E 14 N in Idaho Falls, just east of Hitt Rd, south of the Hitt and Lincoln round-a-bout. Day or monthly passes are available and pricing depends on age. More information can be found on their website HERE.
