Original Story 2/9/17 12:30 p.pm.: The water-flood levels on 1275 E 1200 N in Shelley have increased significantly since Wednesday. KIFI/KIDK caught up with the family who’s home is threatened by flooding that looks like a lake outside of the house Wednesday morning.
The water levels have spilled over the street. Even more homes are looking more like little islands in that neighborhood. KIFI/KIDK interviewed Jacob Schuldt on Wednesday about his home — he said when he talked to Bingham County workers, all they said they could do to help was bring warning signs and sand. He said he can’t drive his pick up through the water like he could on Wednesday — water now gets inside the doors. In addition, Schuldt does have flood insurance, but it’s proving to be tricky and he doesn’t think his plan will help him.
“I do. The bad thing is, is I called my agent and he told me my deductible was $15,000. So it would take, I think, a lot of damage to utilize that insurance,” Schuldt said.
The flooding doesn’t seem like it will get better anytime soon. The Bingham County Commissioners will meet Friday morning to discuss a county Disaster Declaration Resolution to see what they can do about the flooding.
