Code Red Alert cancelled and man arrested

A Code Red Alert is over for parts of Ammon and a man is in jail as a result.

Friday night around 6:40 p.m., Bonneville County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home at 2990 Romrell Lane near Ammon Elementary School. Reports were a man was threatening suicide inside a home and destroying property and was possibly armed with a knife.

According to Sgt. Bryan Lovell, deputies arrived and spoke to relatives of 36-year-old Barney Hernandez, who had caused damage to the home and threatened them with a knife before leaving on foot.

A Code Red Alert went out to the surrounding neighborhood because Hernandez had left the home and there was a possible threat. The alert was to let people know to stay inside their homes.

Deputies later found Hernandez had left the area in a vehicle. They were able to make contact with him by phone and ultimately convince him to turn himself in. Deputies met with Hernandez and took him into custody without incident.

Hernandez was booked into the Bonneville County Jail and charged with felony aggravated assault and felony malicious injury to property.

Another Code Red call was made to advise the neighborhood that Hernandez was located and the issue was resolved.
