Utah fugitive arrested in Pocatello

A woman wanted out of Utah was arrested by Pocatello police on Wednesday.

Eska Bird, 42, is wanted in Cache County for several felony charges. According to the Cache County Prosectuor, Bird is charged with seven counts of DUI, criminal automotive homicide, reckless driving and driving without insurance.

The charges stem from an incident on Oct. 28 that Bird was involved in. According to the Smithfield Police Department, there was a four-vehicle crash at 850 S. Main in Smithfield. The accident resulted in the death of Eska Bird’s husband, William Bird. William Bird was a passenger in the car Eska Bird was driving. Four other people were also injured in the accident. Police said speed was a factor.

The prosecutor’s office said a warrant was issued for Bird’s arrest in December because her residence was not in the area where the charges occurred.

The Pocatello Police Department said it received information that she could be in the area and have been looking for her for a few weeks.

Bird is currently in custody in the Bannock County Jail without bond and is awaiting extradition to Cache County.
