Video shows hundreds of elk coming to eat in Tex Creek WMA
New video released by Idaho Fish and Game shows a time-lapse of winter feeding taking place in the Tex Creek Wildlife Management Area.
The 2-minute video was shot in February and shows hundreds of elk coming out of the hills to feed on the hay.
The Henry’s Creek Fire burned 22,000 acres of the winter range last August.
To support the deer and elk and keep them away from farmer’s fields and haystacks, Idaho Fish and Game started feeding the animals in December.
Wildlife managers said it’s the largest winter feeding operation in Idaho’s history.
The estimated cost of the emergency feeding is expected to reach $350,000, they reported. It’s being funded by special winter account where 75 cents of every deer, elk, and pronghorn tag purchased goes toward the account, they said.
Roads in the Tex Creek Wildlife Management Area is closed until April 15.
