Many BYU-I students saying ‘I Do’ this spring

Spring break is portrayed as a tradition for many college students.

With the popular time to travel quickly approaching, weddings might be something to do with that.

For students at Brigham Young University-Idaho (BYU-I), the popular thing to do during spring break is tie the knot.

The popular date this year for BYU-I students getting married is April 7 or 8, according to Jensen Jewelers in Rexburg.

In 2015, June was a popular month to get married for the Gem State, according to Price Eonomics.

Price Eonomics states the nation’s most common dates to get married, for 2015, were Labor Day weekend and Columbus Day weekend. The least popular dates are in January and on Independence Day.

Love is in the air at BYU-I!

Winter track is coming to an end and some students are not wasting time in getting married.

Jensen Jewelers sale associate, Andrew Baird, said it is common around this time of year for students to get married. The store has been pretty busy since 2017 started, he said.

“Now, especially with the BYU-I students, everybody loves to get married kind of around spring break time in April. Just April in general. It’s the end of track. People are getting out of school and it’s spring,” Baird said. “A lot of the girls here in Rexburg, they really love what’s called a ‘halo’. So, it’s a ring of diamonds that goes around the center stone. That’s definitely popular, as well as this thin band here.”

Katherine and Harlen Hobbs III got married in the spring of 2015. They knew early on they wanted to get married.

(Harlen) “We both felt like it was the right thing to do. (Katherine) Yeah, we kind of were like, ‘Is it the end of this semester or next semester?’, because mid-semester would just be really stressful. We already knew it was right so why wait?”, the Hobbs said.

Two years later, the two are inseparable and they even finish each other’s sentences. They met at a seminary in the Taylor Chapel on campus. The seminary was on finding romance and keeping it.

(Harlen) “At the end of it, I just kind of looked at her and said, ‘Hey what’s your name?’ and then I asked her if she wanted to go on a date. (Katherine) I was crazy and said ‘yes!’, the Hobbs said.

And the rest is history…

This week, Madeline Fuller and Sean Watts were found looking at rings at Jensen Jewelers in Rexburg.

They are planning for August.

“We know that the ring is kind of the first thing you want to deal with and so we’ve been pondering a lot like we want the ring to look like,” Fuller said.

Watts said he knew Fuller was the one during a Super Bowl Sunday watch party.

“She threw me a Super Bowl party and it was wonderful and she made me food and every time she walked in with a tray of food she’d look at me and smile and I was like, ‘I love this woman,” Watts proudly said.

“(Katherine) We knew we wanted to get married two weeks in. Some people thought we were a little crazy but two years after, we’re still really happy. My family was just happy I was getting married because they thought I never would (Harlen),” the Hobbs said.
