National Guard renames 116th brigade

The 116th Brigade of the Idaho National Guard was formerly known by Golf Company.

After reorganization in October, the company was renamed to Fox Company.

A re-designation ceremony was held Saturday in Idaho Falls. The new company flag was unveiled.

More soldiers were added and the company is now a combined arms battalion. With changes came a new name. Commanders said it wasn’t exactly necessary but a name is a matter of pride. And with a changed brigade, comes that new identity.

“The name of your company is essentially a sense of pride for the company and the organization,” said Capt. James Anderson, commander of Fox Company, 145th brigade. “It’s an identity and it’s what we take pride in. So whenever we have a formation, we have the guidon out front, represents who we are and what the organization is.”

Anderson said he enjoys working with the communities in Southeastern Idaho.

“I’ve had nothing but good and positive experiences with the eastern side of the state. We seem to get continual support from the communities and the positive communications that I’ve had with people here on the eastern side of the state just continue to be awesome.”

The 116th brigade is made up of 4,000 soldiers across four states – Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Nevada.
