Pi enthusiasts and pie lovers celebrate Pi Day
In honor of National Pi Day, many celebrated the day by purchasing pizza pies and fruit pies.
March 14 is equivalent to the number 3.14 because March is the third month and today is the 14th
It is a day celebrated by Pi enthusiasts and pie lovers.
Many folks did not hold back on indulging in pies, in honor of the mathematical holiday.
Shari’s Cafe and Pies is celebrating by allowing club members to have a dollar a slice for every entree they order.
“We usually sell around 200. It can go up over that. A normal day would be about a quarter of that,” General Manager Rick Koverstone said.
Bonneville High School math teacher, Lori Biggs said math is one of those things that is very concrete. She holds a Pi party in her classroom every year.
“I try to bring this into our kids so that they get a better appreciation for this concept that’s a little bit abstract and not as concrete,” Biggs said.
She said Pi x R x squared is not just used in the classroom.
“Anytime you’re dealing with anything with circles, you’re dealing with pi. Anything with trigonometry, anything with angles; you’re dealing with pi. We may not be using it exactly but it influence almost everything in our life,” Biggs said.
Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is approximately 3.14159.
