Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office investigates rash of car vandalism

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office is investigating several cases of car vandalism that caused thousands of dollars in damage.

Deputies said people living in the Cloverdale Estates area of Ammon woke up Sunday morning to find someone had slashed their tires.

“Most of the vehicles only had one tire,” said Deputy E. Parsons, with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office. “Very few vehicles had two tires slashed.”

The Sheriff’s Office says a total of 11 cars were hit overnight Saturday into Sunday. They estimate the damage to be between $3,000 and $5,000.

“This concerns me,” said Kristine Davenport, who had two tires on her vehicle slashed. “My first thought this morning after we found this out was can we move yet?.”

Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office have stepped up patrols in the area to try and catch those responsible. Neighbors like Davenport said things like this happen frequently in the neighborhood.

“We get a lot of the baseball bats to the windows and the shooting the BB guns into the houses, things like that,” said Davenport.

The Sheriff’s Office said the slashed tires are just the latest in a recent rash of car vandalism. Last week, the Sheriff’s Office said it received nearly a dozen reports of car windows being shot out by BB guns in the Ammon and Idaho Falls area.

“We don’t know who it is,” said Parsons. “We are encouraging the public to come forward with any surveillance footage or any information they may know.”

Because of the cost of the damage, whoever is responsible will likely face felony charges.
