Idaho group calls for affordable healthcare

A group called “Reclaim Idaho” is driving around the state advocating for affordable healthcare.

The group stopped in Blackfoot this afternoon and spoke with locals about the struggles they have with the current healthcare system. Individual shared their stories and discussed changes they want made. The group’s goal is to start an organization that will elect legislatures who will change the current system. The group says there are 78,000 people in the gem state who don’t have access to affordable healthcare because they are working.

“We’ve met a lot of people who have received Medicaid before, but then they got a job whether it was as a cashier at a gas station, or a cook at a restaurant, or on a construction site,” Luke Mayville, Reclaim Idaho co-founder, said. “The moment they get a job they lose their healthcare and we think that’s wrong.”

The group is continuing their tour around the state with stops in Pocatello, Driggs and Salmon.

Below is a full schedule:

● August 3, Pocatello, Caldwell Park, 5:30 p.m.
● August 4, Driggs, Farmers Market, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. And at Wildlife Brewery, 5-7 p.m.
● August 5, Salmon, Lemhi County Farmers Market, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
