UPDATED: Idaho Falls residents evacuated for gas leak at 100 block of 6th, 7th and 8th Street

(UPDATE: 8/07/17 9:00 p.m.) A gas leak in the 100 block of 6th, 7th, and 8th Streets has been stopped.

People living in the evacuation area are being allowed to return home. Those living in the area between Lee & Holmes and 6th & 7th Streets may be without gas service as crews work to repair the gas line.

Once the gas line is fixed the company will work with homeowners to restore service, if they cannot make contact with a homeowner crews will leave a door tag so they can contact crews to come and restore service safely.

(ORIGINAL STORY)

The Idaho Falls Fire Department has requested the evacuation of residents and businesses located within the 100 block of 6th, 7th and 8th Streets in Idaho Falls due to a gas leak.

This includes the Aquatic Center.

Officials report the leak is from a main line, and crews are on site and working to shut off all three sections.

According to the city, there are no current fires or other hazards, but officials are requesting people evacuate and avoid the area until further notice.

The cause is still under investigation, and officials do not have a time-frame for the evacuation at this time.

A Code Red call has gone out to those in the area.
