Powerline fire now 98 percent contained

The Powerline fire is now 98 percent contained and firefighters expect to have the fire fully contained sometime today. As of last night, it was estimated at 55,740 acres. Most of their work today will focus on repairing the impacts of fire suppression. For example, a Burned Area Emergency Response Team (BAER) has been mobilized to take action aimed at reducing erosion impacts in the burned area. Incident command will be transferred back to local fire managers Sunday. Minimal smoke and flame will be visible from islands of fuels within the fire lines. According to federal officials, most of the smoke and haze lingering in the Pocatello Valley is not from the Powerline fire, but from a prolonged upper-level flow of air bringing smoke from fires elsewhere. There are currently 180 active wildfires burning throughout the Pacific Northwest and Canada.
