Arizona man dies after cliff jumping accident on Lake Powell

Authorities have recovered the body of a 25-year-old Hotevilla man after a cliff jumping accident on Lake Powell.

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area officials say Erick Kallestewa reportedly attempted a cliff jump of about 30 feet Monday afternoon at Anchovy Point.

Witnesses say the man resurfaced and attempted to swim, but had difficulty getting back to shore due to wind and wave conditions.

A remotely operated vehicle was dispatched to search for Kallestewa because the water’s depth was more than 170 feet.

The search resumed at dawn Tuesday and the body was recovered by dive teams.

Authorities don’t yet know if Kallestewa was injured in the jump or drowned.

The death is being investigated by the National Park Service, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office and county Medical Examiner’s Office.
