Caribou County K-9 dies; investigation underway

The Caribou County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of its K-9, Kina.

According to a press release on the department’s Facebook page, Kina was found dead in her kennel Friday. It is believed she died of natural causes.

“In her nearly three years with the Sheriff’s Office, Kina responded to 33 K9 calls in Caribou County and assisted the Bear River Drug Task Force numerous times all over southeast Idaho,” the release said. “During this time, she was responsible for the seizure of numerous amounts of drugs.”

Kina, a Belgian Malinois, had worked alongside her handler, Deputy Kolby Call, since 2014.

An investigation into Kina’s death is underway.

Kina was 5-years-old, having joined the force at 2-years-old.
