Woman killed when motorcycle strikes deer

A California woman was killed Monday night when the motorcycle she was riding on struck a deer near Craters of the Moon National Monument. Idaho State Police said David A. Smart, 30, of North Dakota was traveling northbound on US-93 at milepost 230 at 11:22 p.m. The motorcycle collided with a deer, throwing off Smart and his passenger, Alexandria J. Porterfield, 29, of Highland, California. Porterfield died of injuries sustained in the crash at the scene. She was wearing a helmet. Smart was transported by air ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello. He was not wearing a helmet. As of Tuesday afternoon, Smart was listed in good condition.
