Local jump rope team places at world tournament, Junior Olympics

When you think of jump roping, you may think of playing at school during recess with a few friends. But this time, we are talking the about the competitive sport.

Local skippers of the jump rope team called ProForm Airborne are back in town after competing in a world tournament and traveling to another country.

Four of the team’s jumpers competed at the world tournament in Orlando, FL. They all placed in the top 3 for their individual freestyle routines.

“In the first round I came in with five 1st’s and one 2nd,” said Bailey Andrus, who was among the members that placed at World’s and traveled to Germany and the Czech Republic.

One jumper went to the Junior Olympics in Michigan and grabbed a few medals while she was there.

“In the first round I came in with five 1sts and one 2nd,” Andrus said.

Two jumpers also traveled to Germany and the Czech Republic to teach other jumpers their skills.

“I love traveling and teaching kids in Germany and they just love it so much and you just build more friends,” Andrus said.

The skippers are all local kids from Rexburg to Idaho Falls.

“I like jump roping because its unique. When you tell people you jump rope they don’t really know what that means. Like flipping and going really fast, they just think typical kindergarten doubledutch, but once you actually show them they think it’s really cool,” Andrus said.

A unique sport, that their coach said, takes a lot of practice and precision.

“They practice almost everyday during the month of June preparing for this tournament. Long practices, they put in a lot of work and I was proud just to see them perform really well and perform at the level that they wanted to perform at,” said Monica Foster.

The competitive jump roping season just ended with those high profile tournaments. The season is during spring-time. From now until next year, the team keep practicing and perform at school assemblies and community events.
