Suspect in custody after Pocatello standoff

UPDATE: Pocatello Police have released additional information about yesterday’s standoff with Jonathan Adam Oresco. Oresco’s first court appearance was scheduled Wednesday afternoon.
Police said the entire incident began at a residence at 1730 W. Quinn where Oresco got into an argument with Melvin P. Foster, 47. An unidentified female was also in the home.

During the fight, Oresco produced a knife and stabbed Foster multiple times. Foster ran from the residence to seek help from neighbors, who called 911. Foster collapsed on the sidewalk and was given emergency first aid. He was transported to Portneuf Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.

Oresco then ran away and head south, where he was spotted by two Pocatello officers.

The officers chased Oresco on foot to a residence at 1900 W. Quinn. They said Oresco forcibly entered the home, which was occupied by the homeowner.

Oresco barricaded himself in a room inside the residence. The incidents leading to his arrest are detailed below. ORIGINAL: Pocatello Police arrested Jonathan Adam Oresco,55, at around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday after a 3-hour standoff. Police said Oresco allegedly attacked a victim then broke into a mobile home at 1900 West Quinn Road. The victim was not identified, but police said the victim was in stable condition at Portneuf Medical Center. Oresco was uncooperative throughout the negotiations with police. He was forcibly removed by the Pocatello SWAT unit. Oresco was not hurt, but was taken to the hospital for medical clearance before he was taken to the Bannock County Jail. He was initially charged with possession of a controlled substance for a small amount of methamphetamine and paraphernalia. Formal charges were expected to be announced Wednesday.
