Motorcyclist injured in crash on I-15 near Idaho/Montana border

A motorcyclist was injured in a crash on I-15 near milepost 196, near the Montana border around 10:00 a.m. Thursday.

Idaho State Police said 60-year-old James Schlichting of Collingswood, New Jersey, was travelling northbound on a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle while 80-year-old Doris Anderson of Grand Junction, Colorado, was driving northbound in a 2011 Hyundai Elantra. Anderson initiated a lane change and Schlichting went into the median to avoid Anderson’s vehicle and lost control.

Officials report Schlichting was transported via air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.

As of Thursday afternoon, he was listed in critical condition.

Police report he was wearing a helmet during the crash.

Both the north and south inside lanes were blocked for emergency vehicles for approximately three hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
