Wyoming ACT scores dip slightly

Wyoming’s eleventh-grade ACT scores dipped slightly compared with the previous year although education officials say the difference was statistically insignificant.

Students who took the ACT last spring had a composite score of 19.7 statewide. In 2016, the statewide composite score was 20.0.

All Wyoming 11th graders must take the ACT, which tests knowledge on English, reading, math and science.

While none of the results showed increases in any of the subjects, Wyoming Education Department spokeswoman Kari Eakins says the differences were not statistically significant.

Park County School District No. 16 had the highest average, at 22.1.

Among the larger districts, Albany County averaged a score of 21, followed by Laramie County 1 at 19.7, Natrona County at 19.3, and Campbell County and Sweetwater County School District 1 both at 18.9.
