Fire on Birch Creek Road contained

Firefighters were called to an out-of-control fire about half a mile south of US Highway 26 on West Birch Creek Road near Ririe at around 2:20 p.m. Friday. The fire was contained at less than 20 acres. It was burning weeds and sagebrush and an old potato cellar. The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said the fire was caused by a man burning garbage. Charges are pending. Bonneville County deputies, Jefferson Central Fire, Idaho Falls Fire, and the Ucon Fire Department all responded to the fire. The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office is again reminding that a burn ban is in effect until September 23rd in Bonneville County. Burning of any kind is not permitted on private property in the unincorporated areas of Bonneville County. That includes backyard weed burning and bon fires. An open burn ban is in effect almost everywhere in eastern Idaho, including public lands and forests in all but designated fire rings. In Bonneville County, a violation is a misdemeanor and could come with financial liability if the fire causes property damage.
