Structure burned in small brush fire near Swan Valley

A small fire near Swan Valley destroyed a shed and burned an acre of land near the intersection of Highway 31 and Highway 26, according to Idaho Falls public information officer Kerry Hammon.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the fire started just after 4 p.m. Saturday near the Sheriff’s Office substation and was called in by deputies.

Two other structures were threatened by the fire, but crews were able to get control of the fire before they were damaged.

Hammon said the fire was caused by a fire in a burn barrel getting out of hand.

Fire officials are warning of dry conditions throughout the area ahead of the eclipse and are encouraging visitors and residents to use precautions when dealing with fire. Several communities have burn bans in place.
