Comic Con big draw for costume lovers

While some go to Comic Con to experience their favorite fantasy worlds, others come for another reason.

Costumes, or cosplay, are a major draw for many at the first annual Snake River Comic Con. People worked on their costumes for months, making them by hand and going to major lengths to get them just right.

“I actually ended up playing ‘Assassin’s Creed,'” Lonni Rae Jones, who made her son’s Comic Con costume, said.

She spent thousands of hours make the costume perfect for her son, Aden.

“Cuz when I went online to look for details…there is no pattern out there so I had to design my own,” Jones said. “I would just play the game, turn the character around, freeze it, take pictures and then measure my son.”

Many get creative in the materials they use for their costumes.

“The majority of this is actually empty, sealed plastic bottles,” Kitty Waite, Comic Con Costume Judge, said. “So it’s stuffed with air and it’s super lightweight.”

Most love the feeling of putting on a costume and pretending for a day.

“The experience of getting to be someone else and getting to play another character,” Annette Thelin, costume designer, said. “And getting to make a lot of friends who are interested in the same thing as you.”
