Troopers discover pot in routine traffic stop

Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers found 197 pounds of marijuana during a routine traffic stop September 30.

Larry Gibson, 66, of Redding, California was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and felony intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Gibson was arrested just before 3 p.m. at milepost 353 on eastbound Interstate 80, about 9 miles west of Cheyenne.

A trooper observed his 2011 Dodge pickup pulling a horse trailer with no registration displayed on the pickup. During the traffic stop, a drug detection K-9 was deployed and alerted to the presence of a controlled substance in the horse trailer.

During a search of the trailer, troopers located 197 pounds of marijuana in several different containers.

Troopers believe the marijuana was being transported to the Muscle Shoals, Alabama area from Eureka, California.

The pot had an estimated street vaqlue of $394,000.
