Pocatello names city attorney

Bannock County attorney Jared Johnson has been confirmed as Pocatello City Attorney.

Johnson’s appointment went to the Pocatello City Council Thursday. He will assume his new duties October 16.

Most recently, Johnson served as Chief Civil Deputy Prosecutor for the Bannock County Prosecutor’s Office. There he dealt with civil matters, personnel management cases, and planning and zoning issues.

“With his experience working for Bannock County, Jared brings a new perspective to the position,” said Mayor Brian Blad. “He’s also spent most of his life here and understands our community, which makes him a great fit for City Attorney.”

Johnson’s new job will include prosecution of infractions and some misdemeanor criminal citations as well as legal counsel for the mayor, city council, and other city departments.

“As City Attorney, I will ensure that the Legal Department continues to give sound legal advice and provide top quality legal services,” said Johnson. “Initially, my plan is to gain a more thorough understanding of the workings of each department in the City so that I can determine what changes, if any, need to be implemented within the Legal Department so as to better serve the City.”

Johnson is an ISU graduate who obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Idaho College of Law.
