Shinkle sentenced to 10 years for home burglary, shooting
A man who was shot in the lower abdomen while trying to burglarize a home and shoot the owner has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
William Shinkle of Victor was sentenced Monday and must serve five years before becoming eligible for parole.
Authorities say during the burglary near Rigby in October 2016, Shunkle fired multiple shots at the homeowner but missed.
The homeowner’s teenage son then returned fire.
Shinkle later pleaded guilty to charges that included aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
Judge Alan Stephens also ordered Shinkle to pay about $7,300 in restitution to the victims.
