Man killed in Wyoming after car plunged into river
A man has died after a couple’s car drove off a road and into a river in western Wyoming.
The accident happened around 1 p.m. Friday on U.S. 26-89 through Snake River Canyon.
Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper Mike Merritt says the surviving passenger believes her husband fell asleep before he swerved, hit a guardrail and went down an embankment into the Snake River. Merritt says two fishermen heard screaming and saw the woman standing waist-deep in the water.
He tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide alcohol isn’t thought to be a factor.
A search and rescue team recovered the man’s body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities didn’t immediately identify the victims.
