Kelly Canyon opens for the Winter season
Today was opening day for the crew over at Kelly Canyon ski resort, and were excited to get things going for the 2017-18 season.
“We had great snow last year,” David Stoddard, co-owner of Kelly Canyon, said. ” Were hoping for great snow this year and looks like its starting to roll in. We’re excited about that.”
The mountain got 10 inches of snow over the weekend, bringing the season total to 24 inches. Which helped kick off opening day for the resort. Skiers and snowboarders could not wait to hit the mountain.
Opening their doors, or slopes rather, 60 years ago, the resort prides themselves on being a great family environment.
“It’s a wonderful place to learn to ski, ski with your family, ski with your parents, your grandparents,” said Stoddard.
Only being about 30 minutes away from Idaho Falls, means you can head up for the day and still return home by dinner.
Something that sets the mountain apart, is their night skiing.
“Night skiing is always a highlight here, because there’s not a lot of night skiing in the region,” Stoddard said. “Most of our hill is lit at night so that’s a great thing.”
The resort invites anyone and everyone to come hit the powder with them this these colder months.
Last year the mountain opened up on the 9th of December, which means this years season is getting off to a later start. But the resort u sually stays open until March, so there is plenty of time to get out there. Just as long their is enough snow on the ground.
