Idaho’s first medical school dean to depart

The Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM) in Meridian announced Friday that founding Dean and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Robert Hasty will leave the school. Hasty has been selected to lead the creation of a new osteopathic medical school, which has not yet been announced.

Hasty was instrumental in creating ICOM on the campus of Idaho State University’s Health Science Center in Meridian.

“My time as Founding Dean of ICOM has been among the best experiences of my career, and the decision to leave and create a new medical school was made only after deep reflection,” Dr. Hasty said. “ICOM has seen great success and is on track to provide highly competent and compassionate physicians for the region, which is desperately needed.”

Hasty said that knowing the impact ICOM would have has given him “great pride.”

A leadership transition plan for the college will be announced in the coming weeks.
