Governor announces block grant awards

Bear Lake and Custer Counties have been awarded two of 15 Community Development Block Grants approved by Governor Brad Little Tuesday.

A $150,000 grant will be earmarked to help upgrade the Senior Center-Community Center in Montpelier.

Custer County received $500,000 in support of the North Custer County Rural Fire District Fire Station facility.

The Idaho Department of Commerce said the grant program assists cities and counties in developing public infrastructure. It is funded with money received each year from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The funds are primarily aimed at projects that benefit low and moderate-income people or mitigate health and safety threats.
